After 3 flights, one wayward bag and almost 24 hours of
travel, we finally arrive in the wine country of Argentina, Mendoza. We are met
at the airport by our Mendoza guide, Pedro Roussel and brought to our lovely
boutique hotel, Entre Cielos.
We are introduced to Malbec and Argentine beef at lunch, and
then off to the wineries.
Our first stop is Le Cruzat, a winery that produces
sparkling wine. The winery is not open,
but we get a special tour. Unbeknownst to us, our guides father “Don Pedro”, is
the master winemaker of the winery! That’s how we got the special tour!
Our next stop is Alta Vista, where we have another
intimate tasting. We really liked these wines, and we tasted our first
Torrontes, a white wine.
For dinner, we are brought to Cordillera, a restaurant that
is owned by a popular and renowned Mendoza chef, Lucas Bustos. The restaurant
is closed, but we re privileged to have a cooking class with Lucas, where we
make empanadas from scratch, a delicious egg dish, sweetbreads, and other
regional delicacies.
